Throw out your NYE resolutions. No, seriously.

We’ve all got so much shit to do that adding one more “health and wellness goal” to our list will probably push us off the edge of a mental cliff. That being said, telling you to throw out your goals may not make me sound like a health coach (or even sane).

But I do feel validated by Einstein, who so famously said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

Every year, we set goals to fix something we have deemed a bad habit, unfavorable, unhealthy. And every year, we lose steam by February. It has become a running joke in our culture, but do we ever stop to wonder why? Is this the insanity Einstein talks about? And what can we do to actually make changes in 2025?

Well, first off, let’s recognize that we are steeping daily in a cultural soup that tells us we need to be fixed. We had BETTER get to fixing what is broken and January 1st (post-holidays, darkest and coldest time of year) is the perfect time to do it. But who says we aren’t great just as we are? And who says self acceptance isn’t the KEY to turning around those pesky health habits you wish you could drop as quickly as your ex ghosted you? And who wants to (instead) just lie on the couch with a cozy blanket, a book and a hot cup of tea this time of year?

What if, this year, we started out from a different place, with a different intention?

What if this is the year that we assume we AREN’T broken. And that there is not emergency that needs fixing?

How does that feel in your body? It incites a big exhale in mine. As a woman and, let’s face it, a health and wellness junkie, I am prone to starting from a place of brokenness. An “I need to fix this” void that makes my nervous system go haywire.

That exhale you felt? That is your nervous system feeling safe. Deep in your core, you know who you are. You know you don’t need to change a damn thing. Yet, we can also hold two things to be true at the same time. We aren’t broken AND we would also like to feel better in our bodies today, this month, this year and continue on our trajectory of growth and building healthier habits.

First, we recognize we are perfect right where we are (inhale, exhale, health woes and all). Then, we ask what would help us to feel better so we can unfold into an even more beautiful version of ourselves. What is the first thing that arises for you? What does your intuition tells you needs to shift? Let’s start there.
